“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” – Georgia O’Keefe

As a friend looked at my new work she stopped at this image and asked, “What do you like about this one?”  I thought, but didn’t say out loud,  “I don’t know, I just like it; I have no words.” Instead I said, “I like the colors, the way the lines and shapes repeat, the way the light shines on the veins in the petals and makes the center stand out. I like the illusiveness of the out-of-focus parts. I even like the marks that the stray light makes on the glass and water.” Sure, I can break it down to the compositional elements but that doesn’t really sum it up. I have no words.
